Hello from the Haig

Writting from the Haig Glacier outside Canmore, Alberta.  It is amazing up here!  I have some great pictures and stories to share, but with very limited internet connectivity, those will have to wait until I'm back at sea level.  Rest assured we are all getting lots of volume, food, sleep, and scenic views in.

Summer Recap

Heading out to the Haig Glacier on Saturday.  I've had a really solid summer of training and everything else.  Time has flown by, here are a few things I've kept busy with.

Four sessions a week of coaching for Piotr and Go Training Ski Club has been an awesome experience.  This has been the first time I have been able to work with a group of athletes on a regular basis for an extended period.  It has been so fun to see my girls in the morning program progress and really grow as athletes.  They have been a delight to work with, as they show up every morning at 7AM, rain or shine, ready to work hard and just soak up everything you say.  The masters group has also been great.  These folks sure love skiing and have a great sense of humor about themselves and life (really helps when you're learning to rollerski later in life!)  Also great progress made on their part.

I had the wonderful opportunity to coach at Bill Pierce's FAST Training Camp in Hayward at the beginning of July.  I was so impressed by the focus and ability of the athletes at the camp.  All the girls were highly receptive and a joy to work with.  Highlights of the camp were strawberry picking, river running in the Namekagon, swimming in the crystal clear Green River, and our trip to the amazing Delta Diner.

FAST Camp Girls.

While in Hayward I also was able to participate in the CXC Summer Champs.  Great opportunity to go up against all the fast ladies in the region.  Time to kick up the L4 and race-intensity training.

The coaching for the summer has wrapped up and now it is time to switch gears to thinking about the impending races season.

I've also been dabbling in a some alternative activities this summer, mountain biking being one of them.  Here is the story from my trip to Cuyuna last weekend:

It gets good at about 1:30 and I make my cameo at 3:15.

Staples--not stitches--is what Josh got at Cuyuna.
Well, got a caravan to lead out bright and early tomorrow moring.  We'll be hitting the road to Canmore and getting on snow on Monday.  Look for updates from the Haig!

An Autumn Trail Series

Hello Fans and Followers!

Thanks for stopping by.  If you are interested in supporting my ski racing, here's an idea for you...

Volunteer for my running races!

August 31, September 14, September 28, and October 12

Volunteers needed from 3:30-8:30 each Wednesday evening

Why volunteer?  The Salomon Autumn Trail Series, now entering it's third year,  is a trail running race series I founded to fund my ski racing.  All the proceeds from the event fund my travel and racing expenses.  I receive no outside funding for my skiing.  Besides the satisfaction of helping someone reach their goals they have put thousands of hours toward achieving, you will be rewarded with all the aid station food you can eat, swag, raffle entry, free race entry, and Surly beer.  'Nuff said.  Contact me to sign up.
